Emma's ready for her close-up, Mr. DeMille!
August 28, 2004
The Aurora Theatre Company has announced its fall season, which includes the West Coast premiere of “Emma”. This particular production sports a cast of only five, which makes us here at AustenBlog Research Facilities, Ltd. wonder which five they’ve picked – Box Hill wouldn’t be the same without all our favorites!

Perhaps they do it Illyria style, where actors dash on and off stage mid-scene to change costume and take on the role of another character as needed.
I’ve seen their P&P done in this style twice now.
I saw an adaptation of NA that was similar. There was switching off for the smaller roles as well as crossover because they juxtaposed scenes from The Mysteries of Udolpho and the same actress played Catherine and Emily, the same actor Henry and Valencourt, etc. Also, I have the script of another theatrical version of NA that uses actors in several roles (the same actor plays Mr. Morland and John Thorpe, which is frankly kinda creepy).
How was their production of P&P?
