Can somebody please tell me why we’ve gotten a zillion hits from folks searching for the phrase “Jane Austen heroine” today? Is there a contest or something? I know that eBay Treasure Hunt thing is over, so that can’t be it…

    It occurred to me that we should perhaps provide a list:

    Elinor Dashwood
    Marianne Dashwood
    Elizabeth (Lizzy) Bennet
    Jane Bennet
    Fanny Price
    Emma Woodhouse
    Catherine Morland
    Anne Elliot

    Since it’s a crossword, I’m guessing the answer you are looking for is probably EMMA. ;-)

    Anyone care to share which paper it was in? USA Today or the NYT?
