Admin: software upgrade

The software upgrade is mostly complete. There are still a few things that need tweaking *glares sternly at link category titles* but we think everything is working. Let us know if you run into any problems.

Comment preview will be back eventually. :) (It’s not out of the box, and I have to figure out the plugin, and there are some more pressing matters that need attending to beforehand.) Live comment preview installed–as you type the comment, the preview will appear underneath the typing box. We agree that it is a bit creepy. ;-) Also I installed a comment-spam killer app, so please don’t be offended if your comment is kicked to moderation. I’m using it on two other blogs and so far genuine comments get through with no problem, so hopefully that will continue.

ETA: I tested the comment posting as a “guest” (i.e. not logged in as a staff member) and it asked for a “captcha” where I had to enter a generated code. This is part of the spam killer software. Once you post with a “captcha” once, I think you become a trusted user and shouldn’t be asked again, unless you use a different name/e-mail address/URL etc. I am thinking about having registration for commenters, which would allow one to bypass all that stuff. What does everyone think of that idea?

Ha! Live preview works. Is slightly creepy. ;-)

I wouldn’t mind registering but haven’t you got some really nice news tidbits through commenting? One would think that some comments will not be submitted if you have to register. Or did you think that all guest comments will have to pass the cencor first? I guess that would be reasonable.

Live preview is funny. I don’t know which to look, the comment window or preview :D

Well I think the life comment previews is amazing. I love it. Even on my slow connection I can appreciate the speed. Great Job Mags, i was not sure that you could improve the blog but you have.

Cairbre, just type and then check the preview after you’ve typed it! :) Otherwise you’ll go nuts!

And registration will NOT be required to comment, it will just be an option to make it easier for regular commenters.

Robyn, thanks for the kind comments! I hope this IS an improvement. It will make my life easier, not having to deal with the comment spam, that’s for sure.

Yeah I know, I just scrolled the window and hid the preview. About going nuts… I think that train has left the station long time ago :D

Yay for upgrades! Live preview is fun.

I think registering is a great idea, especially if it’s not a requirement. We certainly don’t want to scare off any brilliant one time commenters.
