The Telegraph is reporting that ITV has confirmed the casting of Billie Piper as Fanny Price in what the article calls a “multi-million pound adaptation” of Mansfield Park. No news about when filming will begin or when the film will be broadcast.

Okay. Not sure how to feel about this. I’ve never seen Billy Piper act. The show she is on is really popular. However, she looks too modern to me. But that is because of makeup, hairstyle, modern fashion etc.

Multi-million pound production? Is that really necessary?

I almost hope they leave her hair blound for this movie, otherwise she’d look rather like Frances O’Connor! She does look rather modern but with the right hair and make-up I think she might just fit. Now all we need to know is can she be meek and shy?

I think she can pull off the meek and shy–but can she act like a 19th ce lady? Or at least do a better job than Keira Knightley?

Who’s to say how she might play it. But judging from what I know about her… well, it simply makes me cringe. I think she’d be better playing Miss Crawford if she must play someone. But let’s wait and see, I guess.

Harumph! If ITV wants to make shows that will bring in the viewers, I can think of a property they’re sitting on that has a huuuge audience frothing at the mouth for it!

Anyway, Billie Piper actually is pretty talented. Being a chart-topper at 15 probably isn’t really good for you in the long run, but she’s doing solid work now.

Might get a nicer film than MP1 if it’s a mulit-million pound production. E.g. better costuming, sound, lighting, acting, sets etc.

Yeah, really hoping for better than Keira (tho I do like Keira).

Ooh, Sandra, now you have me curious. Which property are they stitting on?

I’m not sure about this gal. At first glance she reminds me of Denise Richardson. Which, in my books, is Not A Good Thing, but am willing – as always – to give the benefit of the doubt. At the very least, it being ITV, the chances are good that they won’t muck about with the story in order to make it ‘more appealing’.

    Hi Karenlee,

who I suspect isn’t the person of the same name with whom I am acquainted, as she, like me, is painfully aware that ITV isn’t making any more Hornblower films. Sob! Anyway, it’s dreadfully off-topic for here, but one could contact the Editrix for more information on the appropriate forum.

I do hope this MP is going to be nothing like MP2, I’ve just watched it again and become very discouraged, it makes me mad how people mess around with our Jane! And as someone trying to introduce her new friend to JA (starting with the movies), I say we are hopelessly in need of a more interesting, but true to the book, adaptation! I pray this will be a good one!

I hope it’s good too, though I’m quite partial to MP1. Have you ever seen NA1? The same script writer for that one is the same one for MP3.
