He wants only regimentals to make him completely charming

September 15, 2006

Alert Janeite HeatherL wrote to let us know that Mark Dymond will be playing Captain Tilney in Northanger Abbey 2007. We suddenly are in great sympathy with Isabella Thorpe.

I just love the pic in which he is in the frilly ladies’ undies. He is so handsome otherwise and there just, well, a geek.

In a restaurant – not Northanger Abbey or the pump room.;)

Oh, he’s super cute! Hey did ya’ll know that NA3 was listed on IMDb, the full cast and everything? That’s so cool! Persuasion 2007 was also listed on there, wasn’t it? It’s really nice to have the cast listed like that, it just makes it so real! :)

Ooh, not bad! Must say that the ladies undies are not in his best color, and clash with the surrounding scenery.

    I love IMDb!

Alas, I should have been more observant. He is indeed vacuuming in his ladies undies. :-P He is quite good looking anyhow!

Andrew Davies is probably kicking himself that he didn’t think of it first.

    Must…resist…plot…bunny…must…resist…plot…bunny…

Ah, screw it. Ladies, gentlemen, and half-pay officers, I give you: the very first piece of NA2 fan fic! *blare of trumpets*

AFTERGLOW: A Gothic Fantasy, by Mags

Isabella lay in bed, having just been ravished by the very masculine and handsome Captain Frederick Tilney. He looked so handsome in his scarlet coat! (Though didn’t dragoons usually wear those fabulous tight-fitting blue coats that showed off their bums so well? Like that nice Lieutenant Sharpe fellow? He certainly had a very fine…but never mind that, she was Frederick’s girl now.) She was smiling and happy, but a little apprehensive. Frederick would marry her now, of course. She wouldn’t be stuck in a poky country parsonage with that boring Morland, scratching out a living on 400 bloody pounds a year; not after the events of this night.

Captain Tilney emerged from the dressing room. She could not quite see him in the dark room except for his white nightshirt. At least–it LOOKED like a nightshirt. Wasn’t it a nightshirt?

A candle flared; her future husband stood before her–wearing stays and a waist-petticoat!

    Isabella screamed.

“What?” the aggrieved captain complained. “My darling Belle, after the joy we have shared this evening, I thought I could reveal my darkest secret to you!” He twirled around, displaying his outfit for her. “Don’t I look pretty?”

“ARE THOSE MY SHOES, YOU B@ST@RD?” screamed Isabella. “They’re going to be all stretched out now from your giant feet!”

“I’ll buy you another pair of shoes, my love…I couldn’t resist these. Red kid! Mamma used to say that only whores and children should wear red shoes, but gosh, these are just fabulous!”

Isabella got out of bed and stomped around the room, collecting her clothes. “Take them off, NOW! I am going home, and I’m not going home barefoot!”

“Do you think I could try on your stays first? They’re rather nice.”

Isabella, having found herself whirled into a vortex of dissipation, screamed again.

    THEE END.

Bravo ! I guess Captain Tilney is an officer but less of a gentleman, I mean he should’ve asked first to try on her red shoes !
To rephrase Ausnt Gardiner, ‘I think the mistress of Northanger Abbey might put up with a great deal!’ ;)
Won’t the Captain look becoming in a red corset for his seduction ? I confess it’s only now I’ve noticed the vacuum… it may explain why the past couple of days I’ve been in a time warp- haven’t been able to get that 70s’ song and filmclip by Queen, ‘I’ve got to be free’ out of my head. ;-)
