As far as Persuasion and a “rainy Bath” are concerned, recall that on “that” particular day, Anne was unable to be punctual in arriving at the White Hart Inn to spend “breakfast to dinner” with the Musgroves as she had promised because of the unfavourable weather. She headed out as soon as it had cleared, and while JA may not have written anything about it beginning to rain or drizzle again after that, it’s certainly rather providential that Anne and CW should have their epiphanal moment (or however you want to put it) in the wet and perhaps still rainy streets of Bath in the upcoming P3.

I would like to think that JA would have approved, and perhaps been a bit more forgiving and understanding of the weather than we are in this day and age

I don’t think the rain in Persuasion is deliberate. I watched the filming for a while when they were shooting scenes in the Royal Crescent, and it was drizzling on and off all day. They stopped when the rain got harder, but there wasn’t a lot they could do – it was just one of those dull, miserable English days.

Sally Hawkins is a brilliant actress and I’m looking forward to seeing her Anne!

Im curious as to know, is there any possibilty of people in Canada to be able to watch these tv movies once then are broadcasted in ITV? Itv is not offered here in Canada =(

I was in raptures and made innumerable squees when I saw this.

Oh please, not more rain! It was okay-ish in P+P3 because what can you expect from a Hollywood production, right? But we expect better from something more along the lines of BBC. Don’t really like the look of Sally Hawkins, and especially holding out the letter like that–I like how in the book the letter’s sort of unspoken (from what I remember). But I certainly like the look of Rupert Penry-Jones!

Billy Piper and Julia Joyce look super cute! Do they ever look alike! I always imagined Fanny as a brunette, with the very plain, mousy brown hair. Oh well. For some reason, I have confidence in these two girls.

I kinda thought that the guy in the “carriage” was Thorpe. I don’t like the sound of what’s happening to our long-awaited NA2!! If it gets too racy, Andrew Davies, your neck is going to be twisted!

Yep, that’s deffinately John Thorpe with Catherine and not James. What a scoundrel! Running off with Catherine, while you might notice a gentleman and lady walk calmly together down the street, could it be Henry and Eleanor? Is Catherine scolding Mr. Thorpe?

I don’t know why but I’m having a little trouble seeing Sally Hawkins as Anne, it’s so strange. I love that letter sceen though!

Billie is perfect! I love her golden curls! She’s going to make a nice Fanny, but I wonder what she and William could be talking about, sitting about the lawn on cusions now less!

Wow, she ran all the way from Bath Street to the Royal Crescent after him? Guess that’s the same moviemaking magic that got Colin Firth dressed and out the door by the time Lizzy got to her carriage…but at least the Gravel Walk is handy! (Tho’ as the tour guide said to us…”It’s more properly called the Tarmac Walk now.”)

Catherine Morland is “overheated”? Impressionable, yes, but overheated?

As far as Captain Wentworth declaring himself in the rain, at least they are not both wet and dripping–we can be thankful for that!
