Review of Jane Austen in Scarsdale

Alert Janeite Spring wrote to tell us about a review of Jane Austen in Scarsdale by Paula Marantz Cohen in the Plano Profile.

The similarity to Jane Austen’s novels is the way those in love fail to understand their own feelings and wishes. After some misunderstandings, a resolution to all problems occurs in this witty, heartwarming novel.

That sounds about right!

I’ve read both this and Jane Austen in Boca. While I did find “Scarsdale” to be entertaining, it seems that the P&P-based “tributes” I have read tend to be better than the P-based “tributes” by the same author. It’s been this way with Melissa Nathan’s books, Helen Fielding’s books and now Cohen’s books.

Maybe some day Persuasion will be an author’s first project rather than an after-thought.
