Elizabeth Bennet doll for sale at eBay

March 5, 2007
by

Amy H. has written to tell us that she is auctioning a custom Barbie doll dressed as Elizabeth Bennet on eBay. Amy tells us that rather than attempting to copy a costume that Jennifer Ehle wore in P&P95 as she has done in the past, she created a dress out of her own imagining of what Lizzy would wear. She is dressed for a country walk, with a pretty ribbon-trimmed bonnet, a lace shawl, and basket of roses. We like the bit of lace finishing off the bottom of her gown; one hopes she does not get it six inches deep with mud!

Just perfect! I’m still trying to figure out how you get Barbie’s straight mane to hold Lizzy’s curls. Need to get a teeny weeny curling iron.

Thanks for your compliments. Actually, to perm a dolls hair:
You need almost boiling water, coffee stirers or straws, straight pins, and a little bit of fabric stiffiner. You may even need extra doll hair, or synthetic hair for rerooting. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to share what I know. I myself have gotten tips from many wonderful doll designers along the way. Thanks again, Amy H.

Hmmm…but will Elizabeth get lost trying to find Meriton [sic], or gardens of Pemberly [sic] ??? Poor dear.
