Alert Janeite Laura requests assistance:
My DH was watching 24 last night and said “Can you show me the cover (dustjacket) of that Austen book you are reading? I think the president’s wife is reading that book.” (Sanditon and other stories, 1996 Knopf Everyman’s Library) I did not get to see the scene of the show but my husband is fairly sure it is the same book.
Did any other alert Janeite happen to catch this or do you have any way to verify it?
Anybody? Bueller? Bauer?

Well, well, with a little more information, I could try and hunt something down.
Which season of 24 is showing at the moment in the part of the world Laura lives in? And which episode was it?

I saw that. It was a Jane Austen novel, but I couldn’t discern the title. btw, It was the former president’s ex-wife who was reading it.

My husband deserves the credit for being the alert Janeite (I was on the computer reading fanfiction!) I have not watched enough 24 to know or remember the difference between president or former president, wife or ex-wife.
After watching the episode online at http://www.myspace.com/24 we were able to determine the title was Sense and Sensibility, Everyman’s Library edition. That is why the graphic looked familiar!

THANK YOU! I could tell it was an Austen novel, but freeze framing the tape wasn’t clear enough for me to read it. I knew someone here would see it and post.
