We think this is just online and not in stores, but Tesco has The Jane Austen Collection–a boxed set of DVDs of the BBC Jane Austen adaptations from the 70s and 80s except for P&P and Persuasion, which are the 90s versions–on sale today for £49.99, a savings of £50.

Not the same “Jane Austen Collection” that’s currently available in the US. It has Colin Firth on the cover. It contains P&P2 rather than P&P1, and P2 rather than P1. Also included: S&S1, MP1, E1 and NA1.

    Isn’t that what I said?

“the older BBC series of Jane Austen’s novels except for P&P, which is the 1995 version”

Visitors here can be new to the online Austen fandom, so I don’t use the Austen-L numbering system for the films anymore. It doesn’t make any bloody sense (P&P0?), especially if there are old series one doesn’t know about, which is the case for people new to the fandom, and it doesn’t acknowledge really old television versions from the 50s, 60s etc. that visitor might remember. Using the years is easier. In that light perhaps my post wasn’t very clear but using the years is as clear as we can possibly be. I’ve revised my post a bit.

Also I’m tired of explaining the stupid numbering system that doesn’t make any bloody sense to every new person who comes to the blog. It took me starting this blog to realize that it was a stupid system. :-)

Sorry Mags. I didn’t think you’d mentioned that it’s not the Persuasion from the 1970′s, so thought I’d clarify in case anyone might get confused between teh US set and this set. :)

Also, it’s not that I prefer that old numbering system (although I do see it used here quite a lot) :) . I just don’t remember what year most of those 1970′s and 1980′s versions were released! :P I used the old shorthand rather than looking them up. ;)

You’re right–I didn’t get Persuasion–sorry about that! I’ve fixed the post, though it’s no longer Deal of the Day, I guess, but the price is the same. :-)

If you can’t remember exact years, try decades. It only doesn’t work with the 96 Emma (E2 I guess) and 97 Emma (E3).
