All your Pemberley are belong to us

Filed under: Janeites Run Amok, Online — Mags @ 12:03 am

Alert Janeite Arin sent us a link to a thread at Making Light in which the commenters are making up poetry and rewriting films and literature using l337 and lolcat language, and Abi Sutherland contributed a l337/lolcat version of Pride and Prejudice.

Wikm: IM IN UR TOWN SEDUCIN UR DAUTERS
K17y: o hai

DarC: i can has heart?
l12: no gway u rude

l12: IM IN UR PEMBERLEY ADMIRIN UR STUFF
DarC: hai

We must have our share in the conversation.

lolcat pemberley

(Arin points out that Abi acknowledges further down in the thread that she mixed up Charlotte/Caroline and Ki7y/Lyd14. Still comedy gold.)

  1. Thanks Mags! I’ve uploaded the pic to my own server but linked the credit to you. I hate, HATES my precious, lolcatz, but this is just precious. Would be awesome as a t-shirt (of which I would wear with pride!)

  2. *smirks* That is possibly one of the funniest things I’ve read all year! I loved it.

  3. The collected works of Jane Austen, Bookaminute version, in LOLCATZ:

F3m4l3 l34d: I R IN UR HEART, DENYING UR LOVE!
M4l3 l34d: I R IN UR HEART, DENYING UR LOVE!
    N4rr4t0r: PWN3D!

  4. Showing my age again, I guess. If I squint my eyes I can decipher parts of this, but someone please translate 1337, 112, & PWN3D.

  5. 1337 = leet (the numbers resemble letters) = elite = better than you, basically.

l12 = liz (same as above

PWN3D = pwned = common gaming typo for “owned” as in “I just OWNED you” = won, conquered, beat, kicked butt.

  6. Deb, you and I are just about the same vintage. I don’t get it either.

I think it would take me longer to type that gibberish than it does to type with proper spelling, grammar (hopefully) and punctuation.

  7. Yes, would be annoying in regular correspondence/conversation. But since it’s used ironically for lolcats, it’s funny.
