Olivia Williams to star as Jane Austen in Miss Austen Regrets

August 4, 2007

According to Time, Olivia Williams, who was Jane Fairfax in the most recent television film of Emma (the one with Kate Beckinsale), will play Jane Austen in Miss Austen Regrets. More later. We think they made an excellent choice. :-) Thanks to Alert Janeite Lisa for the link.

Olivia Williams was perfect as Jane Fairfax. I think she is an excellent choice! Now I just hope there is not too much Made Up Story. : )

I agree with Kathleen and Julia! Olivia Williams was a great Jane Fairfax. She’s a much better choice for Jane than Anne H.

I really like those TIME people–did you read the article–did you read the last two paragraphs? Now they have sense!

It’s no Amanda Root (the one I was hoping for to play Jane) but still, I think this is a good choice! :)

I agree with you Chantel, the last few lines of the article were quite good.

Amazing! Even if it wasn’t a Jane Austen film, I’ve been following her career, so I’d see it anyway (I even sat through X3 for her – which I thought was dedicated).

Plus, she’s much more beautiful than Anne Hathaway, which should put the idiotic “she’s too pretty and that’s why Janeites don’t like her” question to rest.

I like Olivia’s performance. She is a talented and beautiful actress, plus, she seems to have the role of intelligent or sweet women :)

James, she’s a very good actress who has been in several big Hollywood films, including The Sixth Sense (she played Bruce Willis’ wife) and Peter Pan (Mrs. Darling). As I said in the post, she was Jane Fairfax in the Kate Beckinsale Emma, and did a fine job. She has the right look and is a very good choice, I think.
