As several of our Gentle Readers have expressed Concern over the workings of AustenBlog and the behavior of other visitors of late, we thought it might be a good idea to have an objective third party to mediate. Therefore, please welcome our new ombudsman, DCI Gene Hunt of the Criminal Investigation Department to the AustenBlog staff. (We won’t be reviewing any of his books, though; sorry.) You can call him Guv.

For those distraught and concerned by recent events on the blog, the Guv has a message:

We hope this new appointment improves your AustenBlog reading experience. Trust the Gene Genie.

Yes–what Deb said. :-) I know Sandra is, like me, a big fan of the Gene Genie.

I hope nobody takes offense to my little joke but I was a bit annoyed with our Concern Troll(s) last night. It’s rather unJanelike behavior and I’m astonished that anyone calling herself a Jane Austen fan would engage in it. This post does not apply to the vast majority of our visitors.

I missed the Trolls, so color me clueless. Probably good idea to add Guv to your staff, but it may take me a while to embrace a guy who was so mean to Horatio in a past life.

Deb R, you must forgive him — he made it up to Horatio in the end! (And if that doesn’t do it, watch Vanity Fair mini of 1998.)

I adore the guy! Thanks for the laugh, Mags! :-D

Good lord, this site is brutal. But…he is rather sexy in a rude, misogynous, jingoist kind of way! Luv the Guv :)

Yes, indeed, he was mean to Horatio, but he and we have gotten past all that now. As for the guv; well, have a look and see what you’ve been missing.

Gotta love a site that brings The Guv together with Jane Austen. Maybe Amanda can encounter the Gene Genie when she’s Lost in Austen?

I love Gene Hunt! ‘Ashes to Ashes’ is a worthy successor to ‘Life on Mars’, can’t say i ever expected him to crop up on a Jane Austen website though…. ah well it’s all good!
