Having just returned from a trip to England where I saw the Chawton cottage and the Great House as well as Winchester Cathedral, I can attest to how important (and moving) it is to actually see the places that JA saw. Now I really understand that when we say that Edward Austen Knight was rich, we mean RICH, not just well-off. And, tho’ JA lived comfortably enough, she was POOR by comparison.
