Pride, Prejudice, and Vampyres in San Francisco

The Thunderbird Theatre Company in San Francisco is presenting a tongue-in-cheek takeoff of P&P, Pride and Succubus. Darcy is a vampire, Elizabeth a slayer. We’re sure they think it’s terribly clever. Perhaps it even is terribly clever. If anyone goes to see it, we’d love to hear about it.

Darcy as a vampire is even better than Darcy as himself. I would soo go see this if I were in SF!

Yes, I’m biased (directly involved in the production as one of the Thunderbird Theatre Company’s members), but thought I’d write, since I/we feel you’d enjoy this homage… We’ve been fortunate to have some Jane Austen Society members attend (two of which “cornered” our actor who plays Darcy after the show, and here’s a couple comments from GoldStar ticket buyers (a ticketing service here in San Francisco):

“This play was hilarious. While I am a huge Jane Austen fan (possibly to the point of obsession, I’ll admit), and got a great kick out of the amazing way that the literature was incorporated into the play, the friends I went to see it with are very much not Jane Austen people and were still doubled over in their seats laughing too. I highly recommend it!”

“Put simply, this play was an absolute hoot! Think “PRIDE & PREJUDICE meets BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER” – then add in puns, sight gags, and of course a small dose of “lowbrow humour” for a campy good time. A few technical gaffes notwithstanding (on this 3rd performance, one actress forgot her lines twice and there were some highly-entertaining problems with the props), this is a group of talented, engaging, and thoroughly funny people. The theater itself is an intimate (i.e., tiny) venue, selling snacks and drinks on the cheap which you can enjoy during the show. This is a show that manages to combine allusions to the Bronte sisters with a riff on the apparent omniscience of Wikipedia and the desirability of men with large . . . billfolds.
I’d never heard of this theater company before this show appeared on Goldstar. Now, well, I’ve told my friends. Now I’m telling everyone else. See this show. You won’t be sorry . . . unless you miss out.”
…and FYI [SPOILER ALERT]; Jane Austen herself is a major character in the play.
