Happy Birthday, Jane Austen!
Steventon: December 17, 1775.
DEAR SISTER,–You have doubtless been for some time in expectation of hearing from Hampshire, and perhaps wondered a little we were in our old age grown such bad reckoners, but so it was, for Cassy certainly expected to have been brought to bed a month ago; however, last night the time came, and without a great deal of warning, everything was soon happily over. We have now another girl, a present plaything for her sister Cassy, and a future companion. She is to be Jenny, and seems to me as if she would be as like Harry as Cassy is to Neddy. Your sister, thank God, is pure well after it. – A letter from the Rev. George Austen to his sister-in-law
Happy Birthday, Jane, and thank you for giving us so much pleasure after all these years.
“By-the-bye, as I must leave off being young, I find many douceurs in being a sort of chaperon, for I am put on the sofa near the fire, and can drink as much wine as I like.” – Letter from Jane Austen to Cassandra, November 6, 1813

Happy Birthday, Jane! Hear, hear.
Happy Birthday, dear Jane!
My sister Paola is at the hospital giving birth to a new Janeite in this moment, what a perfect day to be born
Patty – how cool is that!? Happy Birthday to the most marvellous Jane who 233 years after her is still giving so many people so much reading pleasure. May they still be celebrating her after 233 more!
Eh, that should be ‘after her birth’, of course.
Happy birthday to the lady who has given me so many years of reading pleasure!
Happy birthday Jane!
Happy birthday Jane Austen! and a very “happyday” for us, Janeites!
I’m celebrating Jane’s birthday by waiting at the stage door after “The Seagull” in NYC tonight, hoping to get Carey Mulligan’s autograph. Kitty Bennet! Isabella Thorpe! (Ada Clare! Sally Sparrow!)
I wonder whether she really was called “Jenny” when young.
Regardless, here’s to you, Jenny–thanks!
¡Feliz Cumpleaños, beloved Authoress!
Happy birthday, Jane! And once again thanks for all the wonderful things you’ve written.
*Raising a glass to dear Jane*

A day late, but that doesn’t prevent me from wishing a Happy Birthday.
Wishing you a most belated birthday my dear and closest friend. I hope it was a grand affair!
