"Crystallised Beauty" sheet music on the way
February 12, 2009
We heard from Philip Sheppard, the composer of “Crystallised Beauty,” the piano piece that so many Janeites enjoyed when it was used for the trailer of the ITV Jane Austen Season last year:
Mr. Sheppard has posted the full track on his blog, and also the news that the sheet music for the piece will soon be available for free download on the site. He also revealed in comments that he’s thinking of doing a cello version. Yum!

Thanks for the kind messages – forgot to say that I’ve also put up one of the other pieces from the set – the sequel if you like!
The piece is (as yet) unnamed, but is based on the idea of an empty drawing room at night – except, that is, for the piano. It holds within its wood and strings snatches of music, harmonics and melodies that others have played on it… Any ideas for names gratefully accepted – the more literary the better!

Wonderful! Thanks for the information; I’ll be looking diligently for the sheet music.
The title suggestions are great – thanks ever so much. So far we’ve had:
I would call it Solace in Solitude–remembering Jane Fairfax’s comment to Emma–”Oh! Miss Woodhouse, the comfort of being sometimes alone!”
Maria L
Reflections & Reverie
Amanda
Pemberley Passionato
Jane O
“I wish I could see Cassiopeia,” taken from the stargazing scene in Mansfield Park (chapter 11)? The music is evocative of the same harmony and repose Fanny Price (and I) find in stargazing.

Sybil
These are great, and all suggested titles are being set through to the record company. There will be a piano piece posted on the site every week for the next month.
thanks everyone!
