Update on Broadway-bound Pride and Prejudice Musical
The Broadway-bound P&P musical adaptation by Lindsay Warren Baker and Amanda Jacobs is now on track for a Spring 2010 Broadway opening–because it is looking like autumn 2009 will see the show in a regional production to get everything set up for Broadway. (Mr. Bingley will be taking possession by Michaelmas!) Details are not yet known but we will pass them on as soon as we hear. In the meantime, a video of images from the special performance in Rochester, New York, last year (read the Editrix’s review) set to a live recording of Laura Osnes as Elizabeth Bennet and Donna Lynne Champlin as Jane Austen in a duet of “Had I Been in Love” has been posted on the website.
You must excuse the Editrix; she seems to have a bit of dust in her eye. *sniff*
(And Kitty, you time your coughs ill; have a little compassion on our nerves!)

This looks so wonderful! My chances of getting to see it are remote, but I want the soundtrack ASAP!
Another year? *Sigh* Considering the economic challenges facing Broadway today, I am grateful that it is still in the queue.
The film clip gave me goose bumps. The cast seems so well suited for each roll. The music beautiful and uplifting, like Jane.
Thanks, for the update.
I was one of the lucky few who crammed the auditorium in Rochester last spring to see the preview. This song reminded me yet again of how wonderful this production will be. It’s not just that it uses the funny lines & characters of P&P–there are quite a few stage plays out there that use the lines–but it adds in a great deal of heart and poignancy, which most of the scripts that I’ve seen don’t. And the music is totally wonderful–I’m a folk musician and know just how hard it is to write good, catchy tunes.
I’m glad the production is getting postponed, just because I think the economy will be better (yes, I really do–*when* is the issue) and then it will have a better chance of developing “legs.” Folks, this will be a show worth saving your pennies for to get to New York to see.
Can’t say enough good things about this production, as the clip reminds me. Hey, how about posting a clip of “Her Fine Eyes”?
Here’s hoping they will sell a DVD of this performance once it finishes on broadway because I live on the other side of the world!;)
Loverly!
Oh, I really hope to be able to see this! Thanks for the update. I was fortunate to just get a taste of it at the JASNA AGM in Chicago last fall. Lindsay Warren Baker and Amanda Jacobs were special guests, along with the handsome actor playing Darcy
, and they performed a few numbers. WONDERFUL!!

I second you Erin! But I want to go SO BADLY! I’m already sitting here trying to figure out how that might be possible…I suppose a lot can happen in one year!
Like Lily , I hope they sell a DVD, especially for us in distant places, like Brazil…
I will Say A Little Prayer For It!
Oooh, i would very much like to see this!
Regional production in August 2009!!!!!
Chicago is an outstanding place to have a pre-Broadway run. Lots of shows do that. The Producers came here first to tweak the fine points. I’m PRAYING that Chicago will be it’s first stop on the way to Broadway. If not, then I guess I’ll finally be making that trip to the Big Apple I’ve been talking about making for the last 15 years! If anything can finally get me off my procrastinating “bum”, it’s this musical! Hooray!
Ooops! I meant “Autumn” 2009, not “August”!
So excited my brain isn’t functioning properly. He He!!!
*sigh*
This is lovely!
I vote for the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut for a try-out. Lots of shows have started there and gone on to success.
How gorgeous. I wish there were any way in the world I’d be able to see this show. I hope it’s a great success next year.
How I wish I could go! Thank you so much for posting this! Happy Blogging!
*sigh* Lovely video, gorgeous music. I will probably not have the opportunity to see this, but would love to get the soundtrack. I know I will have “Had I Been in Love” stuck in my head for days. *sigh*
I’ve simply got to figure out a way to go see this.
OMG, Rae! I hope you’re right! Will add myself to the prayer group hoping for a Chicago stop on the road to Broadway
.
I wish the voices came across a bit stronger, imagine it could very well do with the overall quality of the sound system and the fact that it’s a live recording. Even with that, however, I did have a bit of a tear in my eye at the end. They lyrics are delightful. I live in Holland, but I would be quite willing to make NY one of the vacations I take next year just to see this.
The song used in this clip is wonderful! I would be great if Chicago could mount this show so the JANSA attendees could see it as part of the conference. It looks simply smashing!!!
They shall have to perform in Detroit during the final four.
