Alert Janeite Michelle W sent us a link to a post on the Republic of Pemberley with lots of photos of the filming of the upcoming BBC Emma adaptation in Chilham. Not only are the ladies wearing hats, they are quite fabulous hats! We are delighted by this glimpse of the upcoming series.
In other news, a gossip blog reported that Alicia Silverstone is planning a sequel to Clueless, about a high school reunion. We would be extremely suspicious about this project except that Amy Heckerling is reported to be collaborating with Alicia and also set to direct. And Cher better be married to Josh, or they better get back together (this one could be an updated adaptation of Persuasion instead of Emma).

And Josh had better be played by Paul Rudd.
In the second photo posted on Pemberley, Johdi May looks the spitting image of Princess Anne.
A sequel to Clueless without Josh is just NOT POSSIBLE–neither is anyone else playing the role other than Paul Rudd. He just keeps getting cuter and cuter…and I bet he could write a wonderful Wentworthian letter!
You know, the whole Clueless-sequel-as-Persuasion thing was just a whim that crossed my mind as I wrote the post, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. Dionne and Murray are totally Charles and Mary Musgrove.
And of COURSE Paul Rudd must play Josh. That goes without saying. I want the whole cast back.

Anyone else dare to identify any other charecters/actors ? Ahem ! As one can see,I’ve already had my turn…and yes, Jodhi May does appear like the PR at Ascot. It seems as in Emma 3; they are opting for hats rather than bonnets ?Except first picture has a lady with a beribboned bonnet,I think.
Laughed my head off watching Clueless; Amber’s beehive hairdo was so Mrs Elton.

But why?’ It seems so interesting.
I’m not very fond of seeing Emma in a hat, but this floppy one will do I think. As long as it doesn’t make her look like just out of the bandbox.
The book doesn’t really mention hats, only bonnets with regards to Miss Bates and the Oh so fashionable Mrs Elton. Emma should certainly not outdo her.
Much as I love Persuasion and Clueless, I’ve got to throw cold water on this idea. Emma/Cher is too self-assured to play the wallflower, and that’s what Persuasion requires of the Anne Eliot character. If Cher didn’t end up with Josh, I don’t see her sitting on the shelf until he comes back, and does Persuasion as a storyline work unless she does?
Unless, of course, Cher took the Lady Russell role, and had to deal with eating her words regarding advice she gave to a protege…
I like the pictures.
And concerning Clueless 2: To me Cher could a dating but unhappy single very well. She is after all a quite discerning person and would have rather no boyfriend than the wrong one.
She could be “on the shelf” by her own choice, so to speak.
And Yay! for Paul Rudd!!!
