We long for a ball!
June 4, 2009
Alert Janeite Lisa sent along links to two sets of photos from the Jane Austen Ball recently held in Rochester, New York. The photos were taken by Mike Grande and Marie Katzen. It certainly looks like a lovely time was had by all. If you’ve ever wondered what a Regency Ball is like, this will give a pretty good impression. (Hint: they’re fun!)

Wow, that does look like a fun event! I bet *real* Regency balls would have been more fun if everyone wore name tags.
Some lovely ball gowns! But also nice for people to see that you don’t have to wear a fancy costume to these balls to have a great time. I attended one in St. Louis nine years ago (in street clothes), and grinned my head off the entire evening because I felt just like Elizabeth Bennet.
Nobody can ever be introduced in a ballroom.
What a beautiful hall. It’s so hard to find sprung wood floors these days.
name tags….LOL! Hey Mags,When do we get to have a Jane Austen Blog Regency Ball?
James
Margaret;
If that was so then what about Jane in P&P?
James-You are quite right. “Nobody can ever be introduced in a ball room” is a joke. It’s what Lizzy said to Darcy to chastize him for not dancing at the Meryton Assembly. His reply: “Perhaps, I should have judged better, had I sought an introduction, but I am ill qualified to recommend myself to strangers.”
