New “Mollywood” version of S&S in the works for 2011

October 24, 2010

Alert Janeite Sylvia M. let us know that a new, modern-set version of S&S, called Scents and Sensibility, is in production for release in 2011. It looks like it is a product of the Mormon film industry, which also produced a modern-set version of P&P a few years back. Not much info available yet about the new movie, but well, hello Brandon.

(Somebody else told us about this–it has something to do with perfume–and we wish they would remind us about it comments! Sorry!)

I saw a call for extras for this last month. Locations mostly in Utah County (probably Provo), and one day of shooting was scheduled for Salt Lake City. I couldn’t find out anything about the film beyond the IMDB page.

Huh–the IMDB page has it in “post-production” which usually means filming is completed. Maybe not. Or maybe that day in SLC was the last day of filming. Who knows. I’m sure we’ll hear more about it soon enough.

The extras were needed for September 10-24, so it could definitely be in post production by now. The call didn’t have a synopsis, web site, or any other information. I hope they’ll put up a cute web site like the Mollywood P&P did.

That’s funny! I never knew “Mormon” movies were from Mollywood. I’m a Mormon and I have to admit that most of these movies are pretty cornball, but if you know anything of our culture you know the name fits (Molly and cornball)!! LOL I enjoyed the version of P&P from a few years ago and will probably see their S&S at some point. I don’t live in UT so won’t see it in the theatre, but it’ll be out on DVD soon enough!

I didn’t invent the name! If you Google it, it’s a good-natured (mostly, I think) reference to the Mormon film industry–not so much a place. It’s a portmanteau word, like Bollywood (Bombay + Hollywood) for the Indian film industry.

I see in the cast list that a guy named Richmond is a character. My mind has come up blank. Who is Richard or Richmond or anyone with that kind of name in S&S? I see that Fanny’s name has been changed to Fran. I completely understand that decision.

Maybe it’s Robert, as in Robert Ferrars – he looks rather young, so it’s possible.

Well, the producers/directors are not the same ones who put out P&P Utah. They did put out Everything You Want with Shiri Appleby, Nick Zano, and Orlando Seale. I really like that film. The version I saw didn’t have anything Mormon in it al all, but apparently, there is a Mormon version out there. This crew also has done one called Belle and the Beast or Beauty and the Beast with a Mormon version and one that isn’t Mormon. That one started out kind of slow/stilted, but got much better as it went along. I really liked the two leads.
