Review Policy

Getting Your Book or Other Media Reviewed

If you are brave enough to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous AustenBloggers, we are happy to consider your Jane Austen-related book for review, fiction or nonfiction, as well as other media such as CDs or DVDs. AustenBlog very rarely solicits books or media for review. Please note that we do not automatically give “positive” reviews but endeavor to be fair and honest; these are reviews by Janeites for Janeites.

If you are interested, please e-mail the editrix to inquire about a review before sending the book. Unsolicited books and media are not guaranteed a review. Also, please send an e-mail, not a Twitter or Facebook message; we will not respond to review requests that arrive via social media. We understand such things are not considered unprofessional in this degenerate age, but sending an e-mail will help keep us organized.

We prefer to review only recently-released or soon to be released titles. We also consider downloadable ebooks for review.

Please, only Jane Austen-related media. Unfortunately, “set in the Regency” is not sufficiently Jane Austen-related. We have difficulty getting reviewers for all the stuff that really DOES relate to Jane Austen, so please, if you are not sure about your property, ask first.

The AustenBlog Editrix reserves the right to determine if a book or media is Jane Austen-related.

Disclosure

AustenBlog’s book reviewers are unpaid volunteers. They are nearly always provided by the publisher or author with a free copy of the book being reviewed; either an uncorrected proof, advance reader copy (ARC) or a copy of the book as published. In some cases, the reviewer has purchased or otherwise obtained the book herself and wished to share a review with the Gentle Readers of AustenBlog. The reviewers receive no payment or other consideration for their reviews, except the extreme gratitude of the Editrix and occasionally she might tat them a bookmark or something.

Books and other items for reader giveaways are usually provided by the publisher or author, and as of October 2009, we will endeavor to identify the source of each giveaway.

We have no affiliate relationships for book purchases at this time. In reviews, we link to LibraryThing so that interested readers can obtain more information about the book in order to purchase it from the retailer of their choice, and also view other opinions about the book from LibraryThing members, if available.
