I Love You Because, a modern-set gender-switched musical adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, is currently being staged by BroadHollow Theatre Company at the Studio Theatre. Newsday has a rather lukewarm review.
A generation for whom matches are made in cyberspace may regard “I Love You Because” as a cute boy-meets-girl musical comedy. For those of us who recall a time when girls waited by the phone for a guy to call and ask for a date, “Because” is enough to turn us into curmudgeons. If the search for love requires a calculator, then chemistry is just a lab experiment.
The show runs through October 20. Tickets are $14-25 and are available by calling the theater.
