Welcome to another edition of Getting Local With Jane, in which we list upcoming local events from all over that might be of interest to Janeites in those areas. Even if these activities aren’t in your patch of Janeiteville, stay tuned–you never know when Jane will come to YOUR hometown.
January 2009 (all month), London, Kentucky: For “Jane-uary,” the library will show a Jane Austen adaptation each Friday night at 6 p.m. this month.
January 2009 (all month), New Iberia, Lousiana: Iberia Parish Library will be having “Jane-uary,” with a showing of the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice at 6 p.m. on January 29 at the Main Library. The library will feature Jane Austen’s novels as well as DVDs of the film adaptations of the novels.
January 19, Huntley, Illinois: “An Austen Affair,” 2-4 p.m., ages 12 and up.
If your heart begins to flutter when you hear the name ‘Darcy’, join us for a real Regency affair. Take tea and enjoy a light repast and conversation, discuss Austen’s books, play party games, make a reticule, and learn a Regency era dance. We’ll celebrate all things Jane Austen and make merry at this Austentatious fete! RSVP with the Reference Desk to reserve your place. Location: Old Village Hall, 11704 Coral St., Huntley
February 14, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire: The Gainsborough Trinity Arts Centre will present a stage adaptation of Emma for Valentine’s Day. The show is at 8 p.m. Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions) and are available online.
