Tuesday Open Thread: Broadway Alumni Edition

Standard

Once again we must beg our readers’ indulgence as life in its glorious complications gets in the way of blogging. We are going to try to get our backlog taken care of this week.

In general we have a No Six Degrees of Austen Rule, but we sometimes bend it a bit for Tuesday Open Threads. Alert Janeite Peggy has alerted us to performances by several Austen film alumni currently on Broadway.

Amanda Root (Anne Elliot in Persuasion 1995, The Best Adaptation Evar Thank You Very Much) is currently starring in Alan Ayckbourn’s trilogy “The Norman Conquests,” reprising her role along with the rest of the original Old Vic cast at Circle in the Square. It is a limited engagement only through July, so make haste if you would like to see it. Peggy saw it and raved:

…my husband and I saw the Norman Canquests trilogy this past weekend and all 3 plays were GREAT!!! The audience jumped to their feet en masse for an ovation at the end of the 3rd play on Saturday pm. Even my husband, who was dragging his feet to see the plays LOVED them. All the actors were perfect, and of course Amanda Root was terrific.

Janeite tested, husband approved!

Also, Janet McTeer (Mrs. Dashwood, S&S08) and Harriet Walter (Fanny Dashwood, S&S95) are currently appearing on Broadway in Schiller’s Mary Stuart (as Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I, respectively) at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Between these plays, they have collected 7 Tony nominations: each is nominated for Best Revival of a Play; Ms. McTeer and Ms. Walter are both nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play; and Amanda Root is nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play. w00t!

This is an open thread, so what’s new in your patch of Janeiteville?
