Here’s something fun sent in by Alert Janeite Sion: a website that takes a sentence and translates it into Japanese, then back into English, then back into Japanese again and so on, mangling the translation thoroughly in the process. Sion put in That Sentence to see what would happen:
Know the facts necessary for a single person in possession of the wife of the fortunate.
Well, that’s a new one!
Sion also sent another famous JA quotation retranslated:
“If the main character, you must accept the novel idea of a small movement. A complete picture, as you know, my illness.”
Can you guess what it is? (after the jump)
“He and I should not in the least agree, of course, in our ideas of novels and heroines. Pictures of perfection, as you know, make me sick and wicked.”
This is so amusing! I used Northanger Abbey’s first line to hilarious results. Link here: http://translationparty.com/tp/#6410498
