As our Gentle Readers are well aware, your Editrix is exceedingly modest (stop laughing); thus, we had thought to leave this announcement until Friday Bookblogging, but the news seems to be busting out all over the Internets, and one does not like to be behindhand.
Ballantine has announced a new anthology of short stories inspired by Jane Austen’s work, featuring bestselling authors well-known to Austen fans, such as Stephanie Barron, Karen Joy Fowler, and Pamela Aidan, as well as other bestselling authors who are not known for writing in the Austenverse, but who are enthusiasts for her work, including Lauren Willig, Adriana Trigiani, and Frank Delaney and Diane Meier, to be published in 2011. The editor who has done yeoman’s work in pulling together this distinguished group of authors is our friend and fellow Austen blogger Laurel Ann Nattress of Austenprose. We refer you to her announcement of the anthology for the full list of authors who have committed to the project, and we trust that one name at least will be familiar to our Gentle Readers. We are thrilled and honored to be included in this exciting project!
Congratulations Mags, Laurel Ann, and all the authors to be included in this exciting anthology-to-be. As someone commented at Austenprose, I only wish I didn’t have to wait until next year to read it. I think you’ve got a solid hit on your hands! I assume you will announce it’s availability here, Mags, when it’s released? (And I hope it will be beautiful to LOOK at, as a certain “Handbook” is?)

Thanks! I hope it is beautiful to look at, too… ๐ Of course I have no control over it. I had no control over the JA Handbook, either, though my opinion was solicited; totally lucked out on that one.)

I will admit that I skimmed down the list immediately to see if your name was on it. ๐ I’m actually really excited for this anthology; for once, I know nearly all the authors. I will definitely be buying it when it comes out! You might also want to mention the contest pemberley.com is running to add another author into the anthology?

I don’t really know that much about the contest. Everything I know is in Laurel Ann’s announcement, which was the first time I’d heard about it! I imagine details will be forthcoming, which I will of course share.
