Getting Local With Jane Austen: Dig Out Edition

Standard

Well, here in the Eastern U.S. at least we’re experiencing continuing snow and major amounts of it, without a chance for the old stuff to melt away before the new falls. It’s getting tiresome, and trying to plan outings difficult; but we hope that if you have Jane-related stuff going on near you, you can still get out to take advantage of it!

Now through March 6, Old Globe Theater, San Diego, CA: Jane Austen’s Emma, A Musical Romantic Comedy – Paul Gordon’s musical staging of Emma. Tickets are $39-84. Variety certainly liked it!

February 6, 2011, Loughborough, Leicestershire: A Celebration of Jane Austen, starring Robert Powell and Elizabeth Garvie at Loughborough Town Hall. Tickets are £14, £12 concession.

February 13, 2011, Lyme Regis, Dorset: The Lyme Regis Museum will have a talk by Diana Shervington, an Austen descendant, about Jane Austen and her naval brothers, Francis and Charles. It looks like they have a lot of other really interesting talks going on in February, if you’re at all into the Age of Sail and/or the fossils of Lyme Regis. Admission to the museum is £3.50, £3 for senior citizens, students and children free.

February 19, 2011, Toronto, ON: Jane Austen Dance Workshop and Ball, sponsored by Toronto English Country Dancers. Early bird pricing for the workshop is $15, the hair and clothing assistance session is $15, the ball is $20, and the full package is $45. There are discounts for students and a full package discount for those who have attended previous events. Add $5 to each event for “at-the-door” pricing. See the link for registration details.
