Trailer for Scents and Sensibility Movie

Standard

They snuck this one in on us…we heard about it a while back, but quietly this film has been made and has a trailer, just in time for the bicentenary!

From the official Facebook page:

After their father is charged with swindling investors, Elinor (Ashley Williams) and Marianne Dashwood (Marla Sokoloff) must make their own way in life and love. They struggle to find jobs where being a Dashwood isn’t a strike against them. While Elinor finds work as a janitor at a spa, Marianne works at a cafe.

Their struggle to make ends meet–especially so they can help their mother pay for a critical medicine for their younger sister–is lightened by Marianne’s hobby of making scented lotions. One lotion heals aches and pains, which they sell to supplement their resources.

But others want the scented lotion formula, which could be worth a fortune. While Elinor and Marianne try to find love and acceptance, their trust is tested by those scheming to steal the formula. Can they come to a balance of relying on their hearts and sense without losing it all?

Sounds like a cute modern treatment of the story. No release date–on YouTube, someone apparently involved with the production wrote, “We’re hoping for a TV premiere later this year or early next year. Check out our facebook page for updates as we’ll let everyone know about the release info and have updates, photos, interviews, etc. as things progress. Thanks!”

Thanks to Laurie Viera Rigler, who posted a link to the trailer on Facebook!

Appears to be a bit of Bernie Madoff, mixed with a hint of Austen, and a dash (wood) of Bath and Body Works. 😉

  2. If only Ms. Austen were still here to collect the royalties from the media empire built on her foundation… It will be fun to see if this film resets S&S is as well as Clueless reset Emma back in the ’90s.

Hey, that garden they’re in at the end is pretty close to where I live! So apparently this is another Utah production. Well, the trailer didn’t inspire much confidence, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Utah Pride and Prejudice, so maybe this will be better than I expect. Although the punny title is not working for me.

    • Yep, they aren’t making a fuss about it so I didn’t, but the link to the previous blog post about it indicates that it apparently is a production of the LDS film industry. It’s unclear how obvious that will be in the film.

Well, I like fizzy modern updates, because at worst they’re good for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Plus I’m a sucker for even a bad pun, so, yeah. I’ll be watching.
