We are very excited about the upcoming Jane Austen Festival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, March 12, 2011, celebrating Jane Austen’s “More than 15 minutes of fame!” (Andy Warhol was from Pittsburgh.) It’s kind of a mini-AGM, with a great mix of interesting and learned speakers and fun! And of course there will be a ball!
The plenary speakers are Joan Klingel Ray, Linda Troost and Sayre Greenfield; breakout sessions include author Gaelen Foley, period gardening expert Carol Chernega, period dance expert Allison Thompson, period costume expert Lisa Brown (a/k/a Alert Janeite Lisa), scholars Laura Engel and Larry Dennis, and dance workshops to prepare you for the Assembly Ball that evening. It looks to be a jam-packed day, and yes, the Editrix will be attending! We hope to meet some of our Gentle Readers there and new friends as well. Registration is now open, so make haste–space is limited.

Can’t wait for this event! I love the logo of Jane done up in Warhol colors. Hope to pick up a regency dance move or two. Miss Bingely would find me lacking the refinement of a true lady.

I wish I’d known about this sooner, it sounds wonderful! Sadly, it conflicts with a JASNA-NY event on the same weekend — a gathering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to delve into Jane Austen and the Military — for which I am already committed. Love some of the topics planned for discussion in Pittsburgh, though. Drat! Where’s the cloning machine when you need it!

Sally, I’m delighted to say that you are wrong! Your military event is on the following weekend, so you CAN do both!
I also wanted to attend the military event, but I’m giving an Austen talk at the premiere of Emma in Bloomsburg PA the weekend of the 19th. Cloning machine would indeed be useful!
