Auditions for children's theatre presentation of Sense and Sensibility in Charlottesville, Virginia

Alert Janeite Sarah let us know that The Old Michie Theatre, a children’s theatre in Charlottesville, Virginia, will hold auditions (male and female, ages 10-17) next week for its spring show, Sense and Sensibility. The play will be performed for 2 weeks in mid-April.

The theatre is also offering a Jane Austen summer theater class (ages 11-17) in July, for which they will be producing Northanger Abbey.

The website seems to be malfunctioning at the moment, but Sarah sent the following information.

Sense and Sensibility

Our version is a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s first novel about two sisters and their pursuit of love and marriage in early nineteenth century England. The show features period style acting, costumes and dance.

Casting:

Male and female roles for acotrs aged 10 – 17 in fourteen to sixteen roles. Major roles include Elinor, Marianne, Margaret, Mrs. Dashwood, Col. Brandon, Mr. Willoughby, Edward Ferrars, Lucy Steele, Mrs. Jennings, Sir John, Lady Middleton, and other character roles.
Audition Dates:

Week of March 2 from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m.

In Love with Jane Austen

Period Styles of Acting for Teens
For students who have attended Shakespeare Theatre camp, or who have advanced related theatrical experience. Students will be studying period styles of acting, costuming, character interpretation, and artistic self-expression.

This summer we will produce the comedy, Northanger Abbey, set in Bath, England. Northanger Abbey is Jane Austen’s mock gothic novel and follows the misadventures of Catherine Morland. There are plenty of character and comedic roles for experienced actors of all abilities.

Ages: 11 – 17
Times: 9:00 a.m – 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday
